Martin Ragginger was born in Salzburg on March 29, 1988. In 1997, the nine-year old “Raggi”, how Martin is called by his fans, already performed his first race in the Austrian Kart Championship. In the first two years a second and a fourth place in the national series underlined Martin’s talent for motor racing.
1999 he got to know karting in Italy and became a member of the Red Bull Junior Team. As part of the Savelli team he finished the Italian “Bambini” championship with a third place in the overall standings, attracting attention with a victory at the Trofeo San Marino. Martin spent the longest period of his karting career in Peter Kaiser’s KSN (“Kart Sport North”) team, based in Kerpen, Germany, where Michael Schumacher’s home circuit is located.
From 2000 to 2004, Martin, who is a big fan of Ayrton Senna, gained experience at all of the several stations of karting sport. Second places in the DMV (German Motor Racing Association) championship as well as in the Formula ICA 100 in Germany were the results of the years under Peter Kaiser’s instructions. In 2004 Martin finally finished his karting career as a 16 year old with a third place in the German Formula A, the highest karting class.
Then he switched to the Formula BMW, to the junior team “Mücke“. In 2005 Martin’s third place in the Rookie ranking proved his successful start in formula racing. Important years of learning with ups and downs were to follow. In the season of 2006 Martin, the team “Mücke“ and Red Bull agreed to go separate ways. Martin switched to the Eifelland team and within just a few races he scored two victories and four podium places. In the Formula BMW World Final 2006 in Valencia he scored a 9th place.
Since 2007, after a selection procedure in which he stood up to four other drivers, „Raggi” has been part of the UPS Porsche Junior Team. His race calendar comprises 15 different races, consisting of the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany and the Porsche Mobil Super Cup, which are held within the Formula 1 Racing weekends.
